PROLIFERATION OF PERFUME BLOGS AND WANABE perfume EXPERT
Or better said Perfume aficionados and connoisseur? What is this new trend allowing People with no knowledge, no training, and no clue of our industry, opening Blog’s calling themselves “Perfume expert’s”, “Perfume Critic’s” or better yet “Perfumer’s”.
Raised in Grasse, I spent almost ¾ of my life working in the perfume industry as an importer, Marketer and manufacturer. I also served our industry as Publisher for a major perfume magazine. I have served as a Judge for the fragrance foundation, but I wouldn’t dare call myself a “perfume critic” and even less a “perfumer”.
Perfumers are artists, they have a gift and a lot of training with many years of apprenticeship.
At first I was happy to see passionate people opening Blogs, forums and websites sharing their favorite fragrance story with consumers. Some blogs are still interesting and their makers have a lot of fair play and don’t take themselves too seriously. Other becomes “Perfume Expert” and “Perfume critics”.
To this last category I say “Please stop to confuse consumers with false expertise, they are enough confused by trends like the diddy-vs-mariah-perfume-challenge” And please if you have the right credentials post them somewhere in your blog or website and stop to compare yourself with: Jean Claude Ellena, Olivier Cresp, Jean-Claude Delville, Claude Dir, Francis kurkdjian, Jean Pierre Subrenat, Edmond Roudnitska artist creators of perfumes that I have used myself. These artists among many more authentic perfumers are the only expert we should recognize any others are merely amateurs and should not take themselves too seriously.
