For those who may doubt that perfumery is an art ask The luxury accessory house Hermes they had the good fortune of having the artist perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena on staff since 2004. Hermes on Friday met expectations with a 14.1 percent rise in current operating profit, driven by demand for its themed silk scarves and leather goods and of course its perfume. Perfume sales drove almost triple-digit sales growth for Hermes 26.4 per cent for the first half of 2008. This growth was achieved thanks to the strong performance of successive perfume launches: Terre d'Hermès, Kelly Calèche and Un Jardin après la mousson.
